Advancing health care for Idahoans through research

The Research and Evaluation team conducts collaborative, applied research and evaluation to strengthen health care education, workforce development and service delivery across Idaho. We aim to improve health outcomes and quality of life, especially in Idaho’s rural and underserved communities. Our work includes projects related to health professions education, healthcare delivery, patient outcomes and program evaluation.

We are guided by four core principles:

    • Collaboration: Partner with SHAMP faculty, students, and programs, as well as Idaho communities and stakeholders to design meaningful and relevant projects.
    • Outcomes and integrity: Design projects with measurable and impactful results through rigorous and ethical research methods.
    • Research learning and student growth: Prepare future health care professionals through education, mentorship, and research opportunities.
    • Engagement and translation: Transform research and evaluation findings into evidence-based actionable recommendations.

    Health profession student projects

The research and evaluation team uncovers barriers to health care in rural and underserved Idaho and helps find ways to overcome them. U of I School of Health and Medical Professions students are encouraged to delve into health care topics that interest them under the guidance of our faculty and staff. Student-led projects cover a range of topics from difficulties in health care provider recruitment, to the relationship between self-compassion and psychological pain.
