Gardening and horticulture
UI Extension, Nez Perce County offers a variety of resources and programs to help you better understand horticulture and gardening issues. The Idaho Master Gardener Program trains citizens to share their gardening knowledge through community outreach. Contact the UI Extension, Nez Perce County office at nezperce@uidaho.edu or 208-799-3096 for current class dates.
Plant clinic
Get research-based, common-sense answers to your gardening questions from certified Idaho Master Gardeners at the Plant Clinic. The clinic operates during the growing season, 4-7 p.m. on the third Monday in the months of May-August, or 8:30-11:30 a.m. every Tuesday at the UI Extension, Nez Perce County office.
Identification
We can help to identify insects, plants and weeds. We can also diagnose tree and plant problems. Submit your requests online:

Plant or insect sample submission guidelines
If you have a plant, weed or insect problem, we will need to see a sample. Bring samples to the UI Extension, Nez Perce County office for identification and diagnosis. It is helpful to fill out a diagnostic form to bring in with your sample.

Soil samples
Visit University of Idaho Analytical Sciences Laboratory to learn how to submit a soil sample. Contact us at 208-885-7081 or asl@uidaho.edu prior to submitting samples.
Master gardener program
Each year, hundreds of master gardeners share their gardening knowledge as they serve their communities and the environment. UI Extension, Nez Perce County offers the Idaho Master Gardener course during even numbered calendar years. This program is held in partnership with the WSU Extension, Asotin County office.
What master gardeners do
- Answer horticulture questions (by telephone and in person at the UI Extension office)
- Promote environmental responsibility
- Bring the joy of gardening to all ages
- Teach classes for large groups: civic organizations, church groups, garden clubs, schools and others
Becoming an Idaho Master Gardener
If you are interested in being certified as an Idaho Master Gardener, contact the UI Extension, Nez Perce County office at nezperce@uidaho.edu for an application.
Volunteers are required to complete 60 hours of instruction and 30-50 hours of volunteer service.
